E-learning Novelis management training

You are born to lead. You either have it or you don’t. BULLSHIT!

Our client Novelis supports its employees in their leadership development. The company conducts regular needs analyses to continually expand its training offering. The result: a desire for more communicative confidence.

A challenge:

  • Communicative challenges are usually very individual - learners face different hurdles that we have to address within one training programme.
  • Communication is about experiencing, making and doing - theoretical knowledge transfer does not help learners (nor does 99% of professional challenges).
  • Distributed teams leave us no choice but to train in a digital environment. The result is something we are really proud of: the most interactive online training programme in our history.

Our task

We are responsible for the design and delivery of various communication training courses. The client required the training to be delivered digitally and in small groups.

Our aim

Participants gain security for their professional future.
We lay the foundations for development that goes far beyond our training programmes.

Our strategy

The most interactive online training courses in our history. Almost all the content is developed by the participants themselves. The learning group becomes a safe space, colleagues become facilitators and the digital meeting room becomes a stage.

The result

Prospective leaders go through an empowerment programme where they learn with and from each other. There is no one format.

From virtual coaching to facilitated peer learning and hands-on tutorials, our digital course programme for Novelis is as diverse as the needs of the learners.

All touchpoints the same

To ensure that all training modules feel the same, there are a few constants that we translate into different formats:

1. communities working together to develop relevant content

Our coaches provide content impulses and support the group in independently finding answers to key questions (e.g. What is important when creating good presentations?”, How can I best get to know different target groups?”, etc.). In this way, we not only achieve a higher learning effect, but also contextualise the learning content.

2. learning with colleagues and experts
Our programme encourages employees to learn together with colleagues who have similar goals but different challenges, and to discuss what they have learned. The desired side effect: a deep understanding of very different business areas and structures.

3. learning content is available on multiple platforms and in multiple formats
Training materials such as checklists, video links, further reading, etc. allow participants to engage with the learning content outside of the training sessions: Individually and whenever the workload allows or the situation requires.

    Need an example of content?

How do we overcome the fear of presenting content and at the same time put into practice the rhetorical techniques we have learnt? We take the participants to our digital karaoke bar. It’s not about singing, but about presenting unfamiliar PowerPoint slides to the group with confidence. Just like in a karaoke bar, but without the alcohol.

    Linked content

After overcoming some initial obstacles, our PowerPoint karaoke is the perfect opportunity for participants to gain a lot of confidence in presenting in a business context and to experience how pauses, gestures and breathing can help them. At the same time, we can practise another important aspect of Novelis’ corporate culture: The group gives appreciative, constructive feedback according to the methods we have trained.

    A question of (learning) culture

Every organisation has its own learning culture. By this we mean the informal rules, norms and values that govern behaviour within the organisation, including learning. A sustainable learning culture is characterised by, among other things, learning being embedded in work processes and learners taking responsibility for managing and proactively shaping their own qualifications.

This is where our online training comes in:
We provide the impetus, create the framework and give the participants all the tools they need - but ultimately they are responsible for the (lasting) success of the training.

We shape the learning culture of the company:
Active participation pays off for the learners. Individual responsibility is demanded and above all encouraged, and in the long term it becomes an active attitude at Novelis.
